I saw the first glimpse of this campaign when i was travelling by the Mumbai Local one fine morning!! All I could see was huge Hoardings saying "No TV Day". And all I thought was some other social media campaign with a social cause attached to it. But when I logged into the campaign page & checked out more information about this page all i could see was some random thought being portrayed to Mumbaikars with the idea of switching off the idiot Box & coming out & reliving the spirit of Mumbai.
Is there we all have reached? Do we really need a newspaper to tell us to switch off the idiot box *not idiot anymore* & value our loved one's or our life? Have we really forgotten the essence of our own life that we depend on such gimmicky campaigns to get back to the more valuable life? I DON'T THINK SO!!
I am shocked by the way Mumbaikar's have responded to this campaign. I find no reason to welcome this campaign as it does no good socially & it doesn't even promote itself as a marketing initiative. Why this false portrayal i ask? Does it really help? if they wanted to make a difference in real sense then why didn't they rather carry out a NO NEWSPAPER DAY campaign? Wouldn't that help us save millions of trees & the amount of paper we waste? Why not a "NO HONKING DAY" when there is less pollution in the world. Why a No Tv Day? What good does it do?
And the best part was when it involved all the so called twitter celebrities to spread the word. Saying a word or including a #tag after being paid for it? Is that what social media has come to? Facebook the gigantic social network was made with an objective of users being open about themselves & being what they are. But like always the greed & influence of celebrities has spoilt this medium yet again!
All i gotta say is Mumbaikar's don't need a No Day, All we need is to stop supporting such meaningless campaigns & start doing something that would make some difference in the real sense. Next time you see someone has fallen on the track, go there help him out rather than rushing for work!! These campaigns make no Difference.
P.S - A TV channel is coming up with a No Newspaper Day, Beware Mumbai :))
